California Trip - Day 9

June 28 - Tuesday "The Planning Meeting"

Last night we were awakened by the smoke alarm beeping - the power had gone out. The front desk sent a man to fix it. He said kids had tampered with the breakers. When the power came back, the smoke alarm went off for a bit, and it was piercing.

Tim stayed up late playing DS in the bathroom. He fidgeted for about an hour, and he kneed me during the night. Then we had to get up at 6:30 for breakfast with Meg. I killed a spider in the bathroom.

Meg and Hal met us at a golf course for breakfast and the Caziers got to meet them.

Just a bunch of driving until noon. Tim was glum we all wanted to be quiet. Tim and I pranked Miranda a bit, tickling her ear and throwing paper wads. (Megan's comment - you'd think he would have learned better from the first time!) We stopped to pee and I found a new protein bar (mini-mart has best selection of candy and snacks I've ever seen) called Power Crunch Protein Energy Bar/Canada Whey/Splenda.

Tim was behaving badly as we neared Anaheim. We were very close to Dizzy (15 minute walk or shuttle for $4), and a Dennys was next door.

Tim went to the beach with Maleen (he couldn't fit in his trunks, had to use mine) while Megan, Miranda and I went to Dennys. I had a sandwich (minus bread) and fruit. Megan recounted the "Parent Trap" story for Miranda. We got details on the shuttle from the office and change for a $100 bill.

While I crashed for a while, Megan went to the pool and spa; Miranda went to the hotel laundry. Vicki arrived (we didn't have to pick her up at LAX, she got a shuttle). We all went to dinner at Millie's. I had bladder trouble (had to go every 10 minutes). Had a chicken burger (without bun) and fruit.

Vicki broke a tooth. Tim was in a poisonous mood tonight. Tomorrow begins the great and last Dizzy adventure! We had our planning meeting at dinner.

My Comments:

When the guy came to fix the power, he wanted to know if anybody in Maleen's suite had complained about no power, as we were the only two rooms affected. We said no, but we found out later that Maleen and Ty had been in the bathtub when the lights went out. But they just chilled out until power was restored, and were ready to deny that THEIR kids had anything to do with the breakers. (They were all asleep anyway).

Other than having breakfast with Meg and Hal, this was really a day to just relax and catch our breath. The only way we could get off to breakfast so early was to just GO and then come back afterwards to pack up our stuff and check out. The Caziers had us beat all hollow for that - they hit the road right from the golf course. We checked out just a couple of minutes before the 11:00 am deadline.

We had originally talked about doing something on the way down to Anaheim, but everybody was tired and grumpy and just wanted to get to our hotel and rest. We had thought that Maleen and company wouldn't be showing up until evening, but their plans to meet Brenna had fallen through and they were already at the hotel - only three doors away from us. They had decided to go to the beach, and generously offered to take Tim with them. It wasn't a hard decision to make!

This left us with most of the afternoon to do as we pleased. After lunch Bill fell asleep and Miranda went off to do laundry. I was getting really tired of playing solitaire, and I spotted my bathing suit in my suitcase and decided it was time to see if it still fit. It does, although the elastic is getting very old. I probably should get a new one.

The pool was full of kids, so I just hung out near the side and watched them. It was nice and cool in the water, and I didn't feel like doing anything energetic. Watching other people splash around was just fine with me.

After a while I decided to move over to the jacuzzi, which was very enjoyable. There was a gentleman there who was extremely talky to anyone that came near him, so I got to hear the history of his life. Then Miranda turned up at the gate and I figured it was time to go back.

Needless to say, there was sand all over our hotel room from Tim's trip to the beach, and despite having had a good time at the beach, Tim was still not in the best of moods - which continued all through dinner. However, he was sitting with the other kids, so it wasn't quite as bad as usual. Vicki had joined us as well, but she broke her bridge on a piece of bacon (go figure!), and was worried that the tooth would come out (which it eventually did a couple of days later).

We agreed to try to get to Disneyland about the time it opened the next day, and to hit Fantasyland first. When we got back to the hotel, there was a bit of traffic back and forth between the rooms, but not too late as we wanted to get enough sleep.

Obviously I didn't take many pictures today!

I really enjoyed the time spent with meg. She was definitely an interesting person. I loved how at breakfast Robyn sat right near meg and Hal while her sisters sat at the other end of the table with Maleen and Tyler.
